Volunteer

Background

Levern Credit Union was formed in 1995 by representatives of the community who were concerned about the lack of resources and opportunities for people in the area. Particular concerns were raised on the number of individuals and groups who were then experiencing social exclusion due to their inability or unwillingness to save and obtain mainstream credit.

Our Credit Union aims to give people the dignity of helping themselves to achieve a greater degree of financial control in their lives and reduce the blight of social exclusion by providing a local savings and loan alternative to high interest debt. Education is also given to members on the benefits of saving and balancing private income.

How you can help

Levern Credit Union currently has no full time members of staff, with 10 volunteers acting as collectors and other administrative roles. The credit union receives over 70 hours of volunteer hours per week, which is equivalent to two full time posts.

As a result, we are always looking for help around the Credit Union. This can involve a variety of day to day responsibilities that will help with the everyday running of the organisation.

We’re also always keen for members of the community to join the Board of Directors.
